About the Coven

The Coven of the Wise Women is a nondenominational, spirit-led collective based in Schaumburg, IL, devoted to the practice, preservation, and evolution of ancestral traditions, with a focus on Hoodoo and folk magic rooted in the American South.

We honor the sacred balance in nature, the guidance of our ancestors, and the power of personal responsibility in the work we do. Our path is centered on spiritual growth, community service, and the responsible use of gifts for the good of our people.

Membership is open to mature spiritual femmes (21+) who are willing to commit to their personal growth, contribute to the collective, and honor the traditions we uphold.

A foundational understanding of Hoodoo, folk magic, or ancestral practices (through at least six months of independent study or lived experience) is encouraged before applying.

Meet the Founder

“I believe in practice over performance, devotion over drama, and building legacies that outlive us. Wise Women is a place for serious students who are ready to do the work and be supported while they do it.” – Rose

The Coven of Wise Women was created by Alisha Chamat (also known as Rose or Rosie), a medical spiritualist, researcher, educator, co-founder of the Chicago Hoodoo Society and lifelong practitioner of folk magic rooted in the American Black South.

With over two decades of lived experience in ancestral healing, conjure, and spiritual leadership, her work is grounded in both lineage and personal gnosis. She is especially called to support femmes who are reclaiming power after pain, especially those walking the path of deep remembering, sacred responsibility, and collective care.

As someone experienced with chronic illness and neurodivergence, Rose ensures that Wise Women honors rest, access, and disability justice as sacred values. This school was built with softness in mind where pacing, presence, and mutual respect come before performance or productivity.

Wise Women is the culmination of decades of practice, heartbreak, healing, and hard-won wisdom. It exists not as a pedestal, but as a circle and sacred space where spiritualists, ‘witchy women’, healers, and mediums can gather, grow, and be witnessed in the fullness of their gifts.
